Build and Grow with Facebook

November 24, 2009

If you’re smart to look at the Facebook Dev site you will find some interesting topics as well as some interesting developments. As a Facebook Developer myself, I’ve learned a lot of things along the road.

Here’s a really simple method of getting your readers to leave you an easy, and neat comment.

One of the really interesting is the Comments Box, the Comments Box is a social widget that allows users to comment on your content right on your site. It works well if you place the code just beneath an article on the single.php or in a similar location. If you have already included the code in the

Your comment box will appear to be something like this:

The beauty about this widget is that when ever someone leaves a comment it will look like an actual <?php_comments_template(); ?> including 65×65 avatars + names from their Facebook. But the best thing yet and they are not aware of it is that they auto-share it to their Facebook when they comment on it. Pretty sleek right?

<?php comments_templat

Let’s touch some downsides.. If you’ve spent a lot of time building a community, creating landing, converting readers into registered users you’re asking for trouble. Future wise you will get lots of users lost. But anyway, the whole world is moving towards more innovative RSS Feed template so your community might as well get dropped at some stage. What I recommend is to export a .XLS file of subscribers. Go to MailChimp (on my 125×125′s) submit the e-mails there and whenever you’ve got something really good to speak about, an event, promotion, or coupons you need to shoot you will reach your crowd from there.

If you need any help with the codes on this one let me know. I’m still thinking if I should give destroy my 840 member community :)

Happy coding!
Daniel
