Everybody needs feedback, and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than paying a trainer. If you don’t get feedback from your performers and your audience, you’re going to be working in a vacuum.
Sometime’s I just don’t understand Companies.. Let me begin this post with a question. Are you familiar with a “Feedback form”? Of course you are. Incase you are using a Apple machine and your Safari just crashed while reading this post you should be getting something along lines of:
Regardless of what the message might be, you can select to ignore, report.. or relaunch the application. Once you report, Apple gets the feedback and their robots begin to work on these type of errors. Are you familiar with StumbleUpon? Well they have been changing their template for Hmm.. I’d say at least 6 months if not more. Through out the whole time they have a “feedback” button on the middle right screen. Black icon on a white background, you cannot miss it – and so far, they’ve received about 5000 feedbacks out of the 8 million users that they have.
Everybody needs feedback, and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than paying a trainer. If you don’t get feedback from your performers and your audience, you’re going to be working in a vacuum. You cannot be sensitive, you cannot be vulnerable to criticism.. A good feedback is nice to have, but a bad feedback is the good feedback you want to have, otherwise – what will you be improving when it’s not working right?
By now you can guess how important a feedback is for the development team. I mean, see for yourself StumbleUpon with 8,865,182 registered users get 5000 feedbacks – how powerful are they? Exact same thing with Facebook who have their own Feedback system which is the dev.facebook team.. Same thing with WordPress.com blog, who have their own polls, and their feedback system.
If you’re in the SEO / Social Media business you are probably wishing the best for Bing! Who is another Search Engine who takes feedbacks like it’s their jobs:
But here comes a brand Vevo.com who think they are too good for having a feedback while they are the ones who need a feedback the most. I’ve traveled their site and discovered two major things which I wanted to report and see how my feedback would have been detailed:
Step 1: I’ve searched for a video in Vevo.com directory, keywords: Scatman. I found: Scatman John
Vevo found the right video for me, with a heart that says “0″ right next to it. What the hell is this? Are they trying to be like Facebook and have the “Like it” Heart is too girly. That’s to begin with. (Notice the black and white heart is right underneath Scatman John)
Step 2: I clicked on the Scatman John to view the awesome video which brought me to my breakdown point. It was just an image of Scatman John, there is no video there. Just an image, nothing to click, nothing to view, the site emptied. So like Scatman John VEVO has a lot of broken videos who just appear as an “image” in their database. But, who can you report this too? And god knows how many of these they have.. I’m sure their development team has been doing a really good job because I’ve actually dugg out in the website for about an hour a few emails who I’ve reported this issue (Dec 12th) today is Dec 19th and of course, Scatman John is still a screenshot and not an actual video: See link here to view the VEVO search. (Notice that this will not work for you if you are living outside the US you can read my other post on how to bypass HULU.com and VEVO.com how to watch youtue / hulu / vevo from another country
What were the results? I headed back to Google.com, looked Scatman John and watched it on YouTube joyfully, with a 14,508,225 views no silly heart ratings.
My main point is that even after looking for about an hour for an e-mail address to contact VEVO they still have failed to reply to me, or refer to me to where I can send a regular feedback. So, my hopes are that this will appear in their Google Alerts and they will read this awful post that I’ve written about them and realize, that they can’t play around with feedbacks anymore.
My overall experience with VEVO is – I don’t know. As a video personal I have 65GB of bought material from iTunes, I prefer to watch Music Videos over listening to music anytime. And when you come to my house, it’s actually all I play. I’ve got the iPod Touch just so I can watch these videos all the time, where ever I go. It was a dissapointment to me that VEVO thinks they are too good for feedbacks. And don’t get me wrong, I loved the VEVO idea, and was kind of really happy to check it out at first.
I just discovered the other day that Scatman John died, no, not a recent death. But may he rest in peace. What a legend. If you are sitting down on your chair do stand up stare at the ground while the following video will play it’s sound.
